Ghost of Yotei: Jin Sakai Returns with 60+ Reanimated Attacks

Sucker Punch reveals the effort behind bringing Jin Sakai back in Ghost of Yotei's Most Wanted mode, including over 60 reworked attack animations, remade audio, and a returning voice actor.

Jin Sakai is back, and Sucker Punch clearly didn't just copy-paste him into Ghost of Yotei. According to a report from Playground, the studio has pulled back the curtain on how much work went into bringing the Ghost of Tsushima protagonist into the new Most Wanted mode — and it's way more than a quick cameo.

For starters, Jin isn't just an old PS4 model dropped into a PS5 game. Because Ghost of Tsushima was originally built for PS4 while Ghost of Yotei uses PS5 tech, the team had to rework his face, hair, skin, and armor materials from the ground up. The goal? Better visuals without losing the character you remember.

Combat got a serious overhaul too. Over 60 attack animations were re-adapted for the new game, and Jin keeps his signature four sword stances, sticky bombs, and plenty of classic moves. One interesting tweak: some Stone Stance attacks were originally so strong they could wreck enemies with ease, so the devs stepped in to balance things out.

It's the little details that really sell it. Things like Jin pushing the tsuba with his thumb before a duel, or wiping blood off his blade after a kill, have been faithfully recreated. On the audio side, the classic theme music and action sound effects were redone, and Daisuke Tsuji — the original voice of Jin — returned to record new lines.

From combat to those tiny performance touches, Sucker Punch clearly wanted Jin to feel like the familiar "Ghost" veterans know, not just a guest star. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to the series, his return sounds like it's worth checking out in Most Wanted.
