FF11 Free Trial Now Unlimited, Level Cap Raised to 75

Final Fantasy 11's free trial just got a major upgrade: no more time limit and a level cap of 75, up from 50. But restrictions on social features remain.
Have you ever wanted to dive into Final Fantasy 11 but were scared off by its two-week trial? Well, good news: that timer is gone. Square Enix's classic MMORPG now offers an expanded free trial with no time limit, letting you play as long as you want up to level 75. That's a big jump from the old cap of 50, and it means you can finally explore Vana'diel at your own pace without feeling the clock ticking.
If you're a Final Fantasy 14 player, this might sound familiar. FF14's generous free trial has become the stuff of meme legend, and now its older sibling is following suit. The changes were first announced earlier this year, and they just went live with today's update. So if you've been curious about the game that started it all for Square Enix's MMO legacy, there's never been a better time to jump in.
But before you get too excited, there are still some catches. The trial only includes the base game—no expansions—and there are restrictions on social features. You can't use the auction house, trade with other players, or carry more than 100,000 gil. Those limits are likely there to curb gold farming. You also can't start parties, though you can join ones led by full-game owners.
These restrictions will feel familiar to FF14 veterans, and just like in that game, your best bet is to team up with an experienced subscriber who can show you the ropes. They can help you party up and guide you through the game's quirkiest systems. After all, FF11 is a different beast from FF14—it's crunchier, more player-driven, and full of esoteric mechanics that reward exploration and experimentation.
That's part of why FF11 still has a dedicated community 24 years after launch. Some players swear by its unique approach, where you're encouraged to find your own fun rather than follow a theme-park ride. But for newcomers, the old two-week trial was intimidating—it was hard to make real progress in understanding the game. Now, with no time limit, you can take things at your own speed.
Will this finally get you to give FF11 a shot? Or are you sticking with FF14? Let us know in the comments!
