Ex-Rockstar Dev: GTA 6 on Switch 2 'Doesn't Make Sense'

Jérémy Hartvick, a former Rockstar open world designer, explains why a GTA 6 Switch 2 port is unlikely, citing audience mismatch and technical hurdles.
Ever wonder why GTA 6 isn't coming to Switch 2? You're not alone. But according to a former Rockstar developer, the idea just doesn't add up.
Jérémy Hartvick, who worked as an open world designer on GTA 6 from 2017 to 2020, shared his thoughts in a private interview with Kiwi Talkz. "I don't believe it even makes sense, because I'm not sure the audience for GTA 6 is so much the audience for the Switch," he said. His reasoning? If you're a die-hard GTA fan, you probably already bought a PS5 or Xbox Series X to play it. Sales for both consoles jumped after the recent Netflix preview, proving that point.
Nintendo, as Hartvick sees it, exists in its own lane. If you want Mario, Zelda, or Kirby, you need a Switch 2. There might be a few who only own the hybrid platform and would love to check out GTA 6, but Hartvick bets it's a minority. "Does it make sense for you to go out of your way to probably deliver a subpar experience, because it does not run exactly the same when you know anyone will buy a PS5 to get your game?" he asked rhetorically. His answer: "No."
There's also the technical side. GTA 6 is a massive, resource-heavy game. Porting it to Switch 2 would require significant downgrades and optimization—a ton of extra work for a team already stretched thin, with potentially little reward. Hartvick doesn't call the idea "totally ludicrous," but for now, don't hold your breath.
Meanwhile, scalpers are already trying to flip Rockstar's $400 Collector's Box for upwards of $1,500, even though it's still in stock. So if you're hoping to snag one, maybe act fast.
What do you think? Would you play GTA 6 on Switch 2 if it ever happened, or are you sticking with PlayStation and Xbox? Let us know in the comments.
