Epic Games Store Free Games: System Shock 2 Remaster & Buried Stars

Epic Games Store is giving away System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster and BURIED STARS for free until October 8, 2026. Next week brings Out of Sight and TerraScape.
Looking for something scary, sci-fi, or just plain mysterious to play this week? Epic Games Store has you covered with not one but two free games โ and they're both worth grabbing before time runs out.
Up first is System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster, a modern remake of the 1999 classic from Nightdive Studios. The original helped define the blend of first-person shooter and RPG that later inspired games like BioShock. In the remaster, you wake up from cryo-sleep aboard the FTL ship Von Braun in the year 2114 with no memory of who you are or where you are. Worse, the ship is overrun with mutated creatures and deadly robots, and the rogue AI SHODAN has taken control. You'll explore abandoned sections of the vessel, piece together what happened to the crew, and fight to survive. This version bumps up character, weapon, and animation quality, and adds cross-platform co-op multiplayer, mod support, ultrawide screen support, up to 144 FPS, plus gameplay and control improvements. You can also pick from three military branches โ O.S.A., Marine, and Navy โ and build your character with different skill loadouts.
The second freebie is BURIED STARS, a mystery adventure from Korean studios Studio LARGO and LINE Games. Studio LARGO previously worked on adventure titles like Black Room and Gray City. This one takes place during a live survival audition show. A building collapse traps contestants and staff in the rubble โ and then a murder happens on top of the disaster. You'll dig through character conversations, social media, and an in-game timeline to answer who the killer is, why it happened, and how they pulled it off. The game mixes 3D environments with 2D character art and features branching storylines and multiple endings, so your choices shape both the plot and the fates of the cast. Replaying lets you explore different routes.
Both games are free to claim until October 8, 2026 at 23:00. After that, they're gone โ so don't sleep on them.
Epic has also teased next week's freebies: starting October 9 at 1:00, you can grab horror adventure Out of Sight and puzzle game TerraScape. Both currently hold a "Very Positive" rating on Steam.
On top of that, the Epic Games Store mobile app is offering Bridge Constructor Studio for free this week. It's a physics-based bridge-building puzzle game you can play on Android and iOS, but you'll need to launch it through the mobile Epic Games Store app.
So, which one are you grabbing first โ the space horror or the murder mystery? Let us know in the comments!
