Dragon Shelter: My First 14 Days in the Cozy Farm Sim with Dragons

A play-by-play of my first season in Dragon Shelter, the Stardew-style farm sim where dragons help bake pies. From meeting my water dragon to cooking jam, here's what went down.
Ever wondered what it's like to farm with a dragon? I spent my first 14 days in Dragon Shelter, the Stardew-style sim where dragons help you bake pies, and let me tell you—it's a mix of adorable chaos and head-scratching menus.
Day 1 started lonely: I arrived at my grandpa's overgrown cottage, with no sign of him. After a barrage of tutorial popups (that ta-dah noise already grated), I chopped trees, fixed my bed, and crashed. Day 2, I walked into town and found everyone Eeyore-level sad. The mayor explained the town was in shambles and asked for help. I picked berries, fixed a cart, and planted wheat—all while fumbling with the fiddly backpack and unexplained gamepad controls.
By Day 3, I had a shovel, watering can, pickaxe, and a blueprint for an outdoor kitchen. I clear-cut my yard and built it, then made berry jam for the mayor. The cooking system is easy: follow visual steps like mashing berries and adding them to a cauldron. But the menus? Awkward and shabby—nothing like the cute environments. Day 4 was a cursed kitchen renovation: I couldn't add cooking stations because a recipe was queued, and nothing told me why. It was buried in the help menu.
Day 5 finally brought a dragon! A liquid-y critter crawled out of my pond, smelled my berry pie, and became my best friend after I fed it raw berries. Sadly, I couldn't name it—just "water dragon." Cooking together is precious: it adds water from its mouth to the cauldron while I mash berries. But if I work too fast, it gets confused. Best to let it finish one recipe while I start the next.
Days 6–9 were all about training my dragon. It auto-waters crops and can chop trees or rocks if equipped with tools. The carpenter even offered a trampoline for my dragon—trust me, a dragon bouncing is cuter than cows with beach balls. On Day 9, the mayor said to earn trust with gifts and quests via the request board, delivering recipes like baked potatoes and bread.
Day 10 hit that "just one more chore" groove. My routine: water crops, collect sticks and hay, cook 4x baked potatoes with my dragon, deliver one to the merchant and one to the gardener, feed two to my dragon, and sell produce to buy nails for the blacksmith. But there's no map, making quest turn-ins a memory test. And the world feels small.
So far, Dragon Shelter has charm in spades—dragons helping with chores and cooking is a delight—but the interface and lack of guidance hold it back. Will you be picking this up? What do you think of dragon-assisted farming?
