Doom: The Dark Ages Gets Free 'Slaughter Mode' Next Month

id Software announced a free endless single-player mode called Slaughter Mode for Doom: The Dark Ages' Revelations DLC, arriving next month with escalating demon waves and cosmetic rewards.
What if you could fight endless waves of demons and chase your own high score in Doom: The Dark Ages? That's exactly what's coming. id Software just revealed a free update for the game's Revelations DLC: an endless single-player mode called Slaughter Mode.
The announcement dropped during today's Slayers Club Live livestream, with game director Hugo Martin on hand to share the details. According to id, Slaughter Mode is "an endless single player mode where players fight through escalating demon waves across multiple arenas, earning cosmetics and their personal best in round/score." So you'll be battling through increasingly tough waves, racking up points, and unlocking cosmetics along the way.
There's no specific launch date yet, but we know it's coming next month. And we can probably rule out November 19! That little wink suggests the update won't land on that particular day, but the wait is almost over.
If you haven't jumped into The Dark Ages yet, or its expansion Revelations, now's a great time. The base game has been praised as stellar, and Revelations has been called excellent. With a free mode on the horizon, there's never been a better excuse to dive in.
It's also worth noting that id Software has been through a tough stretch. Layoffs hit the studio earlier this year, prompting id co-founders John Romero and John Carmack to each separately comment on the staff reductions. That in turn led to responses from both the studio and Martin himself. Despite the challenges, the team is still delivering new content for players.
So what does Slaughter Mode actually mean for you? It's a chance to test your skills against endless demon waves, compete for personal bests, and earn cosmetics without spending extra. If you're a fan of score-chasing and survival challenges, this mode sounds like it'll scratch that itch.
We'll keep you posted when id confirms the exact release date. In the meantime, will you be jumping into Slaughter Mode when it drops? Let us know in the comments!
