Crazy Taxi: World Tour Hands-On: Great Vibes, But Where's the World?

We played Crazy Taxi: World Tour at Gamescom 2026. It's a fun, simple arcade ride, but the 'World Tour' levels need more variety to live up to the name.
Remember the days when games were just... fun? No skill trees, no crafting, no endless menus. Crazy Taxi: World Tour feels like a blast from that simpler past, and honestly, it's refreshing. But after going hands-on at Gamescom 2026, I'm left wondering: where's the "world" in World Tour?
First, the good stuff. The core gameplay is pure Crazy Taxi. You pick up passengers, weave through traffic, and deliver them with style. The "YA YA YA YA YA" energy is alive and well. It's chaotic, fast, and unapologetically arcade-y. In a sea of games that demand you manage inventories and upgrade gear, this is a welcome palate cleanser.
But here's the catch. The demo we played had a few levels, and while they were fun, they didn't exactly scream "world tour." I was expecting to zip through iconic cities, each with its own flavor and hazards. Instead, the levels felt a bit samey—generic urban environments that didn't really stand out. The challenge was there, but the personality was missing.
Don't get me wrong, the foundation is solid. The controls are tight, the AI traffic is suitably chaotic, and the combos are satisfying. It's just that "World Tour" implies a journey, a variety of locales that make you feel like you're globetrotting. Right now, it feels more like "Crazy Taxi: City Streets."
Maybe they're holding back for the full release. Gamescom demos often show only a slice. But I can't help but worry that the "World" part might end up being just a bunch of similar-looking city blocks with different names. I really hope I'm wrong, because the core game is so close to being a must-play.
So, will you be picking up Crazy Taxi: World Tour when it launches? Or are you also waiting to see if the levels live up to the name? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
