Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's Server Culling Could End Wallhacks

Activision reveals 'server culling' for Modern Warfare 4, a new anti-cheat system that hides player location data from cheaters, covering all maps at launch and beyond.
Ever been in a Call of Duty match and felt like your opponent could see right through walls? Wallhacks have been a plague on the franchise for years, but Modern Warfare 4 might finally put an end to them. Activision and Infinity Ward have just unveiled a new system called "server culling" that could change everything.
In a new video shared on Call of Duty's official social media, the team explained how wallhacks work: normally, servers share player location data between game clients, so even if you can't see an enemy behind cover, the game still knows they're there. That's what cheaters exploit. Server culling flips the script by building occlusion layers into the environments, limiting information to only what you can actually see. If you can't see someone behind a wall, the backend can't either โ and neither can wallhackers.
"For legitimate players, the match plays exactly as intended," Activision said. "For cheat developers, this creates a major new obstacle." It's a simple but powerful idea: cheat software can't reveal information it never receives. When a player shouldn't know where an opponent is, the server withholds that location data entirely. This works alongside existing anti-cheat methods across all platforms.
Server culling won't just cover the standard multiplayer maps at launch โ it'll also extend to the new DMZ-inspired Combat Outpost mode, Warzone, and future updates. That means every corner of Modern Warfare 4's multiplayer experience gets this protection from day one. Activision expects the tech to "disturb the cheat marketplace," though they acknowledge cheat makers will keep trying to adapt.
"We won't sit on our hands," the publisher said, promising to stay on top of the issue. It's an ongoing battle, but server culling represents a significant new layer in the fight for fair play. Cheat software can't reveal information it never receives, after all.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026, for PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. With other changes like adjustments to 2XP tokens and a villain played by Mads Mikkelsen, there's plenty to look forward to. Will server culling finally make wallhacks a thing of the past? We'll find out soon. What do you think โ will you be picking up Modern Warfare 4 at launch?
