Blood Bowl 3: 70-80% of Games Were Solo, Dev Reveals

A Cyanide programmer revealed that 70-80% of Blood Bowl 3 games were played solo in Eternal Leagues, highlighting the importance of AI improvements in the upcoming Warhammer Blood Bowl.
Ever felt like you're the only one who prefers playing solo in a game that's known for its multiplayer? Well, if you're a Blood Bowl fan, you're definitely not alone. In fact, you're part of the majority.
According to Cyanide programmer Mathieu Valero, between 70 and 80 percent of Blood Bowl 3 games were played solo in Eternal Leagues. That's a huge chunk! This revelation comes straight from an interview with Wargamer, and it totally flips the script on the assumption that Blood Bowl is all about competitive multiplayer.
This news drops just as Blood Bowl 3 is about to be replaced by Warhammer Blood Bowl. And one of the big improvements? The AI. Valero admits that Blood Bowl 3's AI was practically non-existent: "We didn't have an AI—now we do." He explains that the new AI works best with straightforward strategies: "You want to give it Guard and Block, and don't go fancy with the combos that a human would be able to do," he says. "But give something reliable to the AI, and you're gonna have a game to play."
Valero is also refreshingly honest about Blood Bowl 3's rocky launch: "It was a mess, like there's no two ways about it." But the team is making amends. Alongside the AI overhaul, the UI is getting a major facelift. "The UI has been significantly revamped," Valero says, "first and foremost the homepage, which was a gigantic waste of space, now it's going to be a customizable set of tiles." That means no more digging through menus to find your ongoing season—you can pin it right to your home screen for easy access.
Warhammer Blood Bowl is being published by Slitherine and will be a free upgrade for anyone who owns Blood Bowl 3. It's currently planned for release by the end of the year. So if you've been holding off on diving back in, this might be the perfect time to give it another shot.
With a better AI and a cleaner interface, solo players—the silent majority—are finally getting some love. What do you think? Are you more likely to play Warhammer Blood Bowl solo or with friends? Let us know in the comments!
