Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 (2026): 4K Mini LED and RTX 5090 Power

Asus updates its flagship 18-inch gaming laptop with a 4K Mini LED display and new thermals, but prices now exceed $4,000. Is it worth it?
Ever wondered what a no-compromise gaming laptop looks like in 2026? The Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 just got a serious upgrade, and it's aiming straight for your wallet.
The big news is the display: a stunning 18-inch Mini LED ROG Nebula HDR panel with 4K resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate. That's a first for this line, and it delivers vibrant colors, deep blacks thanks to 2,000 dimming zones, and enough brightness to fight glare. You can tweak the zoning between one-zone, multi-zone balanced, and multi-zone strong to suit your game. For the best experience, switch on True Color HDR and Ultimate performance mode to unlock the full 240Hz.
Under the hood, you're getting Intel's new Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processor paired with either an RTX 5080 or RTX 5090 GPU. RAM options are 32GB or 64GB, and storage ranges from 1TB up to a massive 4TB RAID setup. Connectivity is future-proof with WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, two Thunderbolt 5 ports, three USB-A ports, HDMI 2.1, and 2.5G LAN.
The design continues the matte black finish from last year, ditching the old translucent look for a more premium feel. However, it's heavier than before—3.7kg for the RTX 5090 model, up from 3.3kg. That's because it's built as a desktop replacement, not a portable play machine. If you want something lighter, the Razer Blade 18 (3.1kg) or MSI Raider A18 HX A9W (3.6kg) are alternatives.
All this power comes at a cost. The RTX 5090 configuration pushes past $4,000, with prices ranging from $4,299.99 to $5,299.99 in the US, and £4,199.99 to £5,499.99 in the UK. That's a tough pill to swallow, but the performance and display quality are undeniable.
After three weeks of testing, it's clear the Strix Scar 18 remains a top contender. The new thermals keep things cool, and the 4K Mini LED screen is a joy to game on. Just be prepared to pay a premium.
