Aniimo Launches with 170K Steam Players: Pet Transformation & More

Aniimo, the new pet-collecting MMORPG, hit nearly 170,000 concurrent players on Steam and peaked at #5 on the global sales chart. The game is out now on PC and consoles, with mobile launching September 23.
Ever dreamed of actually becoming your favorite pet? Aniimo (伊莫) lets you do exactly that, and it's already taking the gaming world by storm.
Since launching on September 16, Aniimo has smashed records. According to SteamDB, the game peaked at nearly 170,000 concurrent players on Steam, hit #5 on the global sales chart, and earned a Mostly Positive rating. Not bad for a new MMORPG!
So what's the hype about? You play as a student at Polaris Academy, a school that researches and trains Aniimo—mystical creatures that inhabit the continent of Aidel. After a fateful encounter with two legendary Aniimo, you set off to explore, capture creatures, and solve problems across the land. The main story has serious moments, but most side quests are lighthearted and adorable.
The graphics are seriously impressive. Despite not demanding high-end hardware, the game features ultra-realistic fur, shells, and textures. Each Aniimo has its own movement, attack, and expression animations. Leave one idle on screen, and it might even interact with your desktop—like a cute virtual pet!
But the real game-changer is the Link Transformation system. Unlike other games where you just command pets, here you can merge with them by pressing C. Want to breathe fire as a Cinderpup to burn vines? Go for it. Need to swim as a Shyshell? Easy. You can also fly, glide, freeze, or generate electricity, depending on your Aniimo. It's a fresh twist on puzzle-solving and exploration.
Capturing Aniimo is a breeze. You don't even need to battle—just craft or find Mystery Cubes, aim, and throw. The catch rate is displayed openly, and you can retry infinitely until you succeed. Sneaking up from behind or hiding in grass improves your odds. There are even special cubes like the Big White Ball that can capture multiple Aniimo at once.
Once caught, you can raise and evolve them. Evolution paths branch in multiple directions—for example, a Cinderpup can become a humanoid Wolf Warrior or a dark-type Hellwolf. There are also regional forms, shiny variants, and rare tiers like Radiant and Prism, each with better talents.
Combat blends strategy and action. You can command your Aniimo or transform and fight directly, using two skills and an ultimate. Dodging and elemental matchups matter, especially against bosses with unique moves. It's easy to pick up but offers depth for those who want to master it.
What really stands out is how alive the world feels. Aniimo aren't just scattered around—they have their own behaviors. Dung beetles roll mud balls, shell creatures draw in the sand, and some disguise themselves. Time of day and weather affect which creatures appear, making exploration rewarding even without quests.
Beyond adventuring, there's a camper van and home system. You can farm, build, decorate, and assign Aniimo to help with production. Visit other players' homes in the same camp for inspiration. Later, you can tackle a 3-player PvEvP mode called Egg Grab, where teams race to find rare eggs while fending off rivals.
Aniimo is now available on PC and consoles, with the mobile version launching on September 23. Whether you're into collecting, exploring, or light social play, it's worth a look. What do you think? Will you be picking it up?
